PDF file format is an electronic file format developed by Adobe Company. This format has nothing to do with operating system. That is to say, no matter you are using Windows, or UNIX or even Apple’s Mac OSX you can still read PDF by using proper software. This feature makes this format become the ideal file format for document issuing and information transporting via Internet. There are more and more books, manual books, firm announcements, Internet references and emails written in PDF format. Up to now PDF format has already been an industry standard of digital information in fact.
But this format cannot be edited by almost all text editors. So how to change this format into others becomes a key problem.
If you have purchased MS Office and its relevant kits, you will be able to convert PDF files into other formats such as word and text files by using MS Office Document Imaging.
This is the optional kit of MS Office. It is used to save the printing files which was changed into pictures and owns the function of OCR. Due to this, it is able to change PDF files into Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MDI) format by virtual print and then convert into word files which can be edited through OCR.
The operation procedural in detail is as follows:
1. from PDF to MDI: choose “print it by Microsoft Office Document Image Writer” in menus of PDF readers. Then you can get a MDI file which is transformed from PDF files.
2. from MDI to text: run Microsoft Office Document Imaging and then open the MDI file created before. Choose “send this file to Word” menu and “keep the structure unchanged in output”. Now you have the editable text file which has the same structure as original PDF file.
